The government has announced today that driving licenses will now be issued from ten additional islands.
An official from the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said that many measures are being taken to improve the license issuance system in the country. Under these efforts, the service has now been expanded to include ten more islands.
The Councils in these ten selected islands have now been granted the permission to issue driving licenses.
These ten councils are;
Haa Alif Atoll Molhadhoo Council
Haa Alif Atoll Ihavandhoo Council
Haa Alif Atoll Kelaa Council
Raa Atoll Hulhudhuffaaru Council
Baa Atoll Kendhoo Council
Vaavu Atoll Council
Faafu Atoll Dharan'boodhoo Council
Meemu Atoll Dhiggaru Council
Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Gahdhoo Council
With these in consideration, license issuance is now provided in 29 islands.
On the 'Sarukaaru' website, the Transport Ministry said that persons have been trained to provide these services in these islands. These trainings will contribute towards improving license issuance services in the islands, and ensuring the service is reliable.
The Ministry further said that they are now monitoring councils and centres which hold the permit to issue license. This is to ensure that standards are met, and to improve service quality, they said.
