Male' City Mayor Azim appealed to President Dr Muizzu to include Hulhumale' Phase 3, Gulhi Falhu, Giraavaru Falhu and Uthuru Thilafalhu under the jurisdiction of Male' City to address the housing crisis faced by Male' residents.
Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has called on the government to implement some of the projects initiated by the former Maldivian Democratic Party administration.
After taking his oath of office as Male' City Mayor last night, Azim appealed to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to include Hulhumale' Phase 3, Gulhi Falhu, Giraavaru Falhu and Uthuru Thilafalhu under the jurisdiction of Male' City to address the housing crisis faced by Male' residents.
Azim noted that this was included in the housing policy adopted by the previous MDP administration, but asked President Dr Muizzu to refrain from discontinuing these efforts.
"As I believe, development can be brought most swiftly, and the place can be inhabited, if the places are within the distance of being able to be connected via bridges. That is the way to ensure a prompt solution is found for this pressing issue. The solution is in being able to develop these places even in the first stage," Azim said.
Highlighting the seriousness of the housing issues faced in Male', Azim attributed the rise of criminal activity as being rooted in this social issue that has been ignored by politicians over years.
Azim went on to say that the pledges he made during his campaign can only be fulfilled with the cooperation of the government and other institutions.
Among his pledges are:
- refurbishment of the fish market to modern standards
- construction of parking buildings
- relocating garages away from the Male' area
- finding a permanent solution to the issue of flooding in Male' streets
- finding a solution for the increasing stray cat population on Male' streets
Azim expressed confidence that the Male' City Council will receive the cooperation of the government. He also affirmed that he would not obstruct any efforts made for the benefit of Male' residents, pledging complete cooperation in such events.
