Elections Commission has announced the provisional results for today's by-election.
Today's election was held to elect persons to the positions of Male' Mayor, Meemu Atoll Mulah Women's Development Committee, as well as three members of Male' City Council.
The three seats are for councillors representing Maafannu South, Henveiru Central and Henveiru South. These three seats became vacant when the members previously filling those positions resigned to assume positions in the current government.
This constituency was won by People's National Congress candidate Hassan Nizam.
The provisional results are as follows:
Candidate 1: Mohamed Rafeeu (Independent) - 58 votes
Candidate 2: Hassan Nizam (PNC) - 383 votes
Candidate 3: Ali Ishaq (The Democrats) - 84 votes
Candidate 4: Ahmed Imran (MDP) - 343 votes
Candidate 5: Mohamed Maizar (Independent) - 215 votes
This constituency is reserved for a woman member. The leading candidate is People's National Congress candidate Aiminath Rishfa Ahmed.
The provisional results are as follows:
Candidate 1: Hawwa Nihla (MDP) - 308 votes
Candidate 2: Aiminath Rishfa Ahmed (PNC) - 411 votes
Candidate 3: Aishath Afnaan Ali (Independent) - 160 votes
Candidate 4: Aishath Leena (The Democrats) - 139 votes
This constituency was won by Maldivian Democratic Party candidate Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed.
The provisional results are as follows:
Candidate 1: Ahmed Rishwan Rasheed (MDP) - 320 votes
Candidate 2: Mohamed Zain Hassan (Independent) - 190 votes
Candidate 3: Fathimath Shaufa Saleem (PNC) - 305 votes

Maldivian Democratic Party's candidate Adam Azim has been elected the new Mayor of Male' City.
The provisional results of the mayoral elections in detail are:
Candidate 1: Shuaib Ali (Independent) - 125 votes
Candidate 2: Hussain Waheed (Independent) - 1888 votes
Candidate 3: Aishath Azima Shakoor (PNC) - 5031 votes
Candidate 4: Adam Azim (MDP) - 7621 votes
Candidate 5: Mohamed Saif Fathih (The Democrats) - 2343 votes
The statistics published by the Elections Commission show that 54,680 persons were eligible to vote in the Male' mayoral elections. However, only 17,410 people turned up to vote, which only amounts to 31.84 percent of the electorate. Out of these, 402 votes were deemed invalid.
