The order of the candidates' names running for the by-election to elect a new Mayor for Malé City has been finalized on Saturday.
In the ceremony held by the Election Commission to draw the order of the candidates' names on the ballot card, the candidates' numbers coincided with the order in which they submitted their forms for candidacy.
In addition to the mayoral post, the names of the candidates contesting for the three vacant seats of Malé City Council - Henveiru Dukunu, Maafannu South and Central Henveiru constituency - have also been ordered.
Candidate 1: Shuaib Ali (independent candidate)
Candidate 2: Hussain Waheed (independent candidate)
Candidate 3: Aishath Azima Shakoor ( People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate)
Candidate 4: Adam Azim (Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate)
Candidate 5: Saif Fathih (The Democrats canidate)
The Mayor's post fell vacant after Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who had previously held the position, won the presidential election on September 30 and assumed office. Additionally, some other seats in the council fell vacant after some council members joined various posts in the new government.
EC has decided to hold a by-election to elect a new Malé City Mayor on January 13.
