Fisheries Deputy Minister Ahmed Shafiu and MIFCO Deputy Manager Ibrahim Saeed (Cade) have resigned from their positions.
Following his resignation, Shafiu shared on Facebook that he had decided to leave the post with the hope that the ongoing issues in the fisheries sector will be addressed.
Speaking to Mihaaru News, he reaffirmed his support for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s policies, expressing optimism that they would lead to progress in the fishing industry.
Ibrahim Saeed, who also served as a deputy minister and media official at MIFCO, informed staff of his resignation via a message to the company’s media WhatsApp group.
In his message, he reflected on the challenges faced during his tenure in the public relations department, where he worked to keep the public informed and uphold the company’s image.
“I always wish that MIFCO is strong, transparent, free from corruption and serves the society honestly,” Saeed said.
However, Saeed said that MIFCO currently lacks the power needed to carry out reform agendas.
Dr Vitaly Lubimov, a Swiss national, who served as MIFCO’s Managing Director and CEO, was dismissed early last month.
Former Vice Chief of Defence Force Farhath Shaheer was then appointed to the role. Under Vitaly’s tenure, three general managers were removed but have since been reinstated.
