PG Shameem in stable condition, MNDF to strengthen security

Announcing that MNDF has strengthened PG Shameem's security detail effective immediately, PG Office stated that he is currently receiving treatment from ADK Hospital, and is in a stable condition.

The Prosecutor General's Office has said that security measures for the protection of Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem has been increased after this morning's attack on him.

Shameem sustained injuries to his left forearm in the assault, with some bones having been fractured.

PG Office stated that he is currently receiving treatment from ADK Hospital, and is in a stable condition.

A statement released by the PG Office detailed that the attack was perpetrated by two individuals riding on a motorcycle, with the use of a weapon.

The statement also confirmed that MNDF has decided to take immediate action to strengthen the PG's security detail.

PG Shameem is known to be passionate about running for exercise, often seen on early mornings, running unaccompanied on the streets of Male'.

PG Office said that the Commissioner of Police Ali Sujau visited Shameem in hospital to check on his condition.

The police consider this a serious offence and are conducting an investigation into the assault.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that there is no room in a democratic community for politically motivated attacks. He called on the perpetrators to be swiftly caught and brought to justice.

Both Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and The Democrats urged to expedite a serious investigation into the attack and to ensure those responsible are apprehended.

Jumhoori Party's Leader Gasim Ibrahim called for a swift response, to arrest the perpetrators and convict them as per the law. He said that this is an important step to ascertain such offences are not repeated.
