People's National Congress (PNC) Chairperson and Special Advisor to the President Abdul Raheem Abdulla has stated that the results of yesterday's parliamentary elections exhibit that Maldivians do not want the country to be driven into political unrest again.
Abdul Raheem said that the reason behind PNC winning supermajority in parliament is the solid policies put forth by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In yesterday's parliamentary election, PNC won 71 seats while opposition MDP only managed to secure 12.
Speaking to Mihaaru, Abdul Raheem, who also won the Fonadhoo constituency seat in yesterday's election, said that this win showed that Maldivians had paved the path for President Muizzu to fulfill the targets of his presidency.
"The people have proved that they will not leave the country forever at the mercy of political squabbles, and challenges," he stated.
Abdul Raheem stated that Maldivians had learned over the past five months that President Muizzu is a leader who will not forget the pledges he makes.
"...he will not act in any way detrimental to the people. The people have immense trust in President Muizzu," Abdul Raheem said.
Regarding MDP's loss, Abdul Raheem said that the party had failed to show tangible results despite having won the presidency twice. He questioned their sincerity and competence, indicating this may have been major factors contributing to their loss.
