The biggest event of the kind, Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race, will be held tomorrow.
The race will be held in two sessions.
The first session will start as early as 05:00 hrs and will conclude at 09:00 hrs.
This session will feature the half marathon, which was introduced last year, and the 10K run.
This session will be held from 16:00 hrs until 18:00 hrs.
This will feature all age groups in the 5K run, as well as the newly introduced office and resort categories.
While the Road Race is ongoing, Police will be closing down streets on the route.
Dhiraagu has organized several additional activities to add to the fun and excitement of the event during the afternoon session.
As such, a wide array of home-cooked treats will be available, which Dhiraagu partnered with Women Entrepreneurs Association Maldives (WEAM) to provide.
These activities will be held at the Central Park in Hulhumale'. Children are also more than welcome at the event, which will feature fun games to keep them occupied.
In relation to the Road Race, Dhiraagu has also organized a special gaming tournament for tomorrow night.
This event will be held from 20:30 hrs to 23:00 hrs.
Those who visit the event can register at the venue itself and participate in the games. Tournaments will be held in Rocket League, EAFC and King of the Hill.
The best three gamers in each tournament will win cash prizes.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is an event conducted under the theme of protecting children's rights. This year alone sees participation from 12 organizations. The organization which gets the highest nominations from amongst these twelve will be gifted MVR 200,000.
In addition to this, MVR 100 from each registration and money from special bibs will also be given to organizations.
While the event is ongoing, stalls from various organizations will be placed at the Central Park as well.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race will see best runners from male and female categories chosen.
1st place in half marathon wins MVR 25,000, with the runner up getting MVR 15,000 and second runner up getting MVR 10,000.
In the 10K and 5K categories, 1st place wins MVR 10,000, 2nd place MVR 8000 and the 3rd gets MVR 6000.
Under 13 and Over 13 categories from schools will be gifted MVR 5000 for the winner. Prize for second place is MVR 3000, with third place winning MVR 1000.
Then newly introduced resort/office category prizes are: MVR 10,000 for the champion team, MVR 8000 for the runner-up team, and MVR 6000 for the second runner up team.
Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the sole international run held in the Maldives. This is held listed at the Association of International Marathons and Distance Racing (AIMS) and the World Running Calendar, and includes a World Athletics Certified Route.
Dhiraagu Road Race was first held in 2007, with this year's run being the 15th edition.
