When approached, Anwar refused to comment on the allegations against him.
The allegations against him are of taking his salary in advance, Mihaaru News reports. Anwar is accused of having used large sums of association's funds during the past nine months.
The official said that the case against Anwar is being reviewed by the disciplinary committee.
"Once this issue came to light, a decision was made to dismiss him from the position," they said.
The official further said that the case has also been submitted to other relevant authorities.
On Thursday's Sports Awards, the Handball Association had won the best association of the year award.
