This year's Maldives' champions 'Unranked' have travelled to New York, USA, to compete in the 3x3 Redbull Half Court World Finals in basketball which starts tomorrow at the Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The team won last year's Redbull Half Court tournament held in the Maldives as well, and represented the country in the World Finals in Serbia.

The team consists of Mafaz Mohamed (31), Ismail Faruhan (30), Ibrahim Naseem (29) and Mohamed Sabeeh Thaufeeq (26).

The current squad of Unranked also played in the world finals in Serbia last year, where Serbia won the men's title and Egypt secured the women's title.

The team said they flew to New York with hopes of winning at least one match. They also aim to participate in the three-points contest and secure a high rank.

"Hopefully we're going with the aim of being successful in either one [of the goals] this year. That's winning at least one match or securing a place after competing in the three-point challenge," Mafaz said, speaking with the press before they flew to New York.

Mafaz also highlighted the support of their sponsors, which allows the team to experience American basketball. He said that thanks to their sponsors, they will be participating in a 10 day basketball camp after the competition.

"One day after the competition, we'll fly to Seattle. We'll come back to Maldives after completing about a ten day training there," Mafaz also added.

"This training is sponsored. We're also flying with the assistance of a lot of sponsors here, including Hawks, STO, and many private parties who have made this happen. Hopefully after all of this, our playing will be significantly improved."

This is the third time Maldives is being represented at the Redbull Half Court World Finals. 'Snappers' from Maldives played the tournament for the first time in 2022, in Cairo, Egypt.
