Every year, Saudi Arabia donates dates to the Maldives for Ramadan, and this year's shipment has already been received, the minister said.
Saudi Arabia has donated 50 tonnes of dates to Maldives, with distribution set to take place before the month of Ramadan, said Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
Every year, Saudi Arabia donates dates to the Maldives for Ramadan, and this year's shipment has already been received, the minister said.
He said the ministry is working to complete the distribution in Male' City and other islands before Ramadan begins. This year, the minister added, some of the dates will also be given to organizations running Iftar programs at mosques.
Saudi Arabia had also donated 50 tonnes of dates during last Ramadan.
The ministry will distribute one packet of dates to each household on the poverty list, followed by distribution to other households on a first-come, first-served basis.
