WAMCO begins waste collection services at Himmafushi

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO), officially launched its services in Kaafu atoll Himmafushi on Monday.

The service was inaugurated by the President during his official tour of the islands in Kaafu atoll.

A senior official said that recruitment is currently underway, and it will take approximately 10 days before the practical waste collection work begins.

In addition to Male' City, WAMCO services are being extended to various atolls. This year, waste management services have also been introduced in Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.

The national waste management program, "Magey Saafu Raajjee" (My Clean Maldives), is part of the Week-14 roadmap and focuses on scheduling, announcing, and implementing a national project for waste management across islands.

The program's main objective is to establish comprehensive and environmentally friendly waste management systems. This includes creating eco-friendly waste disposal centers and facilitating waste transportation between regional centers and islands.

The program also aims to provide training and awareness programs on safe waste management practices at both island and regional levels.
