Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh has been appointed as Controller General of Maldives Immigration.
Former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh has been appointed as Controller General of Maldives Immigration.
Faseeh retired in 2012 after a 23 year career in Maldives Police Service. After this, he worked on the Police Board from December 12, 2022 onwards.
Faseeh was appointed as Immigration Controller today after Mohamed Shammaan Waheed, who was earlier serving as Controller, was summarily dismissed yesterday.
Shammaan was appointed to the post soon after this administration came to office, on November 19, 2023.
Government has not yet officially disclosed the reasons behind Shammaan's dismissal. However, Police announced late last night that they have launched an investigation into allegations that some Immigration staff have abused their positions to take undue benefits from expatriate workers.
Police further said that in a related operation carried out last Wednesday, one residence was searched, with three persons taken into police custody. Police did not disclose any further details, hence it is unclear if the investigation in any way involves former Controller Shammaan.
