In efforts to further develop and strengthen health services in Maldives, the National Ambulance Service has been established on Wednesday.
Health Minister Ahmed Naseem said at the inauguration held at the Republic Square that the establishment of this service is a major step forward in the advancement of the health sector. He said the service is vital to ensure that incidences such as those that have occurred in the past are not repeated and that citizens' wellbeing is better promoted.
He emphasized that this service would make the work of hospitals easier.
A 24 hour call centre has been established to provide ambulance services around the clock. The service has been introduced in the Male' area. To seek their services, dial 100.
The ministry stated that the main objective of establishing this service is to be able to attend more promptly to accidents and medical emergencies and provide pre-hospital care on the way to the medical facilities so as to save lives.
National Ambulance Service will be provided by the service in collaboration with hospitals located in the Greater Male' area.
While the service has initially been introduced in Male' area, there are plans to roll out to the atolls and provide the service across the country.
