Maldives commences a digital archive project to preserve the country's history.
Maldives launched a prototype of a digital archive project yesterday, to preserve information about the country's history.
The project was inaugurated at the Finance Ministry, by Minister of Youth, Ibrahim Waheed, and the Director General of the National Archives, Mohamed Amir Ahmed.
Minister Waheed said that this digital archive project is an initiative in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's efforts to preserve information on Maldives' history, culture and important projects carried out in the country, on the internet.
This partnership between and OAIS Cloud, Dr David Giaretta and the National Archive would expand the national archive's capacity to preserve digital records in addition to gaining knowledge and expertise in the field, the Ministry said.
The Ministry said the benefits of the Digital Archive Project for the staff of the National Archives include:
• Practical experience for employees.
• Employees gain the opportunity to learn best practices.
• Training and capacity building from field experts.
• Training to comply with legal responsibilities.
• Opportunities for strategic development, networking and knowledge sharing.
The system will bring about positive changes in the way information is stored in Maldives, the Minister also added.
"This system will not only be a website that will tell the history of Maldives but it will also tell the world about the country and this will also be an important project for Maldives's sustainable development,” the, Ministry said.
