A boat from Panama has docked at Ihavandhippolhu this morning to seek services from the Uthuru Maritime Service (UMS).

This is the second boat to visit since bunkering services were introduced on September 18, and the first boat to seek UMS services.

The boat that arrived from Panama is an oil tanker named Jian Jie, which sails between Abu Dhabi and China.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), which provides services at UMS, said that the individuals who arrived as crew change for the boat were transferred to Haa Alif Uligan this evening, and participated in the inauguration of Seaman's Rest Area.

MPL has also set up the International Ship and Port Security (IPS) Gate Facility as well in Uligan.

MPL Managing Director Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, Hoarafushi MP Ali Moosa, and Uligan Council President Ahmed Muaz Mohamed also participated in the ceremony.

MPL said that the Seaman's Rest Area is a dedicated facility for crew of boats that dock through IPS Gate to rest and recuperate, along with recreational facilities.

The Panama boat has applied for crew change, clean water supply, pilotage services, food supplies, and spare parts supply. Some maintenance work is also required for the boat, for which the boat will stay at Ihavandhippolhu for five days.

Nine crew members who arrived on the ship are to be transferred to Velana International Airport where they will take outbound flights. Six crew members arriving to replace them have been transported to Uligan.

Together with MPL, a number of private businesses are also involved in providing services to the boat.
