The government has handed over a project to Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) to build a port in Dhaalu atoll Kuda Huvadhoo.
In a ceremony held in Kuda Huvadhoo, the agreement was signed by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed and MPL CEO Mohamed Rishwan.
The Kuda Huvadhoo port will be designed mainly for port to port logistics. With this, Kuda Huvadhoo will be developed as a distribution hub, bringing economic development to the island, MPL said.
The company also said that a bonded warehouse will be established on the island, and additional services related to the port introduced.
Kuda Huvadhoo is one amongst the seven islands the government has decided upon for development as urban centres.
