The draw for the "Ninety Plus Gold Cup," a national football tournament open to teams from islands and cities across the Maldives, is scheduled to take place tonight.
Ninety Plus said that two officials from each of the 22 teams competing in the tournament will participate in the draw.
The ceremony, which will be held at Citron Lemongrass at Alimas Carnival, is set to begin at 21:00 hrs tonight.
All matches of the tournament, held from November 20 to December 25, will be broadcast live on TV. Ninety Plus stated that the Gold Cup is the largest privately hosted football tournament in Maldives to date.
The tournament will feature some of the most football-enthusiastic islands. Each team is allowed to include two non resident players, and some teams have also brought in foreign players.
The tournament will take place at Galolhu Stadium.
Ninety Plus Co-founder and experienced coach Mohamed Shazly said that all matches will be broadcast live on PSM’s Yes TV, including pre- and post-match shows.
“Not only will the matches be shown live, but there will also be an hour-long pre-match show, creating a full football program on TV from 15:00 to 23:00 hrs,” Shazly said.
The tournament will see participation from teams representing Haa Alif Dhidhdhoo, Haa Dhaalu atoll Neykurendhoo, Raa atoll Alifushi, Baa atoll Eydhafushi, Thulhaadhoo, Kendhoo, Lhaviyani atoll Naifaru, Hinnavaru Kurendhoo, Male' City, Kaafu atoll Maafushi, Huraa, Guraidhoo, Alif Alif atoll Thoddoo, Faafu atoll Nilandhoo, Dhaalu atoll Meedhoo, Kudahuvadhoo, Thaa atoll Thimarafushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Fares-Maathodaa, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City.
