US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he was in no hurry to appoint a new White House press secretary following Katie Zacharia's departure from the position.
"We're in no rush," Trump told reporters.
Earlier this week, the New York Post reported that the White House would not appoint a new press secretary until after the US midterm congressional elections on November 3.
On October 16, a White House official told RIA Novosti that Zacharia was "transitioning out" of her role as White House press secretary. The next day, Zacharia hailed Trump as a "wonderful, gracious, thoughtful, enthusiastic man" and said it was an honor to work for him.
Zacharia held her first press briefing on October 13, lasting no longer than 15 minutes. While delivering her remarks, the former official appeared noticeably nervous. CNN later reported that several White House officials subsequently questioned how long she would remain in the role, adding that her performance was unlikely to have satisfied the president.
