Two former senior officials of the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) have been taken into custody on charges of allegedly lying during their testimonies to Congress about their involvement in the FBI's investigations into former US President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, US Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said on Friday.
"This morning, two former senior FBI officials, Nikki Floris, 46, and Bradley Benavides, 56, surrendered on arrest warrants after being charged with lying to Congress about their roles on the Foreign Influence Task Force during the 2020 election. Floris and Benavides allegedly lied to Congress about their roles in the FBI's Hunter Biden investigations," Pirro wrote on X.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrest and noted that the investigation is ongoing.
"Lying to Congress by senior FBI officials strikes at the heart of our system. No one is above the law," Patel said via X.
Both Floris and Benavides testified that the Foreign Influence Task Force was not involved in the investigations into Hunter Biden, however, evidence shows that "contemporaneous communications, and witness accounts contradict their testimony," he added.
Earlier in October, US President Donald Trump said he considers Joe Biden, his son, and everyone around them to be extremely corrupt.
In 2020, the New York Post published a series of emails addressed to Hunter Biden, which mentioned that he had represented his father, then-vice president of the United States, to his employers at Ukrainian company Burisma.
Trump claimed at the time that Biden Jr. had received millions of dollars for lobbying work selling access to his father. The correspondence was allegedly found on Hunter Biden's laptop, discovered in a Delaware repair shop. Later, the same laptop became the source of scandalous personal photos of the president's son, in which he was depicted with drugs and prostitutes.
