UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday that the world was witnessing "an El Nino of war," with conflicts fueling one another and their consequences spreading worldwide.
"In climate, we know El Nino as a disturbance in one part of the planet that disrupts weather patterns and upends lives thousands of kilometres away. We are now witnessing an El Niño of war. Conflict is feeding conflict. And the consequences are travelling farther and faster," Guterres told reporters.
He added that civilians and civilian infrastructure were being deliberately targeted in conflicts.
