Achieving the peace deal on the Ukraine conflict is complicated by the disagreement between Moscow and Kiev on certain points of the negotiations, US Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday.

"The reason why we haven't struck a peace deal is because they've just been too apart on some of the details of that negotiation," Vance told reporters.

He did not specify the reasons behind disagreements, but noted that both countries had agreed to come to the negotiating table.

The vice president also said that US special envoy Steve Witkoff is optimistic about his recent talks with Russian and Ukrainian representatives.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed Witkoff of Russia's readiness to resume trilateral negotiations on Ukraine in November. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said that a new round of trilateral negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement could take place in Abu Dhabi next month.
