Vladimir Zelensky said on Tuesday that he had called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to ask the United States to restore Ukraine's access to the Starlink and Starshield communication systems.

Rubio said on Sunday that Ukraine had requested access to the Starshield communications system to carry out strikes deep inside Russia.

"I spoke with Marco Rubio… on the issues that matter… The situation with Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored," Zelensky wrote on X.

Zelensky said he had also raised the issue of Ukraine's depleted stockpile of ballistic missile interceptors and poor intelligence sharing.

On October 14, former Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Serhiy Sternenko said that Starlink services in Ukraine were restricted, with connectivity dropping when moving at speeds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour (99 miles per hour). He later said that that the cap was lowered to 60 kilometers per hour.

Politico reported that Washington could leave Kiev without US intelligence data and access to Starlink. The report was published shortly after Trump criticized Zelensky, arguing that he created problems for the whole world. Trump stated that Ukraine needs a new leader who can reach an agreement with Russia.
