The five Central Asian countries and the United States will strengthen cooperation in security and countering cyber threats, according to a joint statement adopted following the C5+1 foreign ministers' meeting on Monday.
"The people of the United States and Central Asia will benefit from strengthened C5+1 security cooperation. Our governments will place particular importance on countering terrorism and transnational organized crime and enhancing border security," the statement read.
The ministers agreed during the meeting in the Uzbek city of Samarkand to continue working together to tackle illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drugs and weapons smuggling.
"A modern approach that focuses on mitigating threats of the digital era, including through enhanced C5+1 cyber security cooperation, will strengthen our ability to successfully counter cyber threats and cybercrime," the statement read.
In September 2015, the US, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan created a new format of interaction, dubbed C5+1, to discuss regional issues.
