French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Monday announced the start of a large-scale operation to investigate the unrest in the country.

"A large-scale investigative operation is starting today," Lecornu said on the TF1 TV channel, referring to the large-scale riots that broke out across the country over the weekend.

In this regard, the French prime minister called for a "tough legal response to violence."
