US Vice President J.D. Vance, commenting on the unrest in France, said that Western liberals had imported the "third world" into France, while disregarding questions of assimilation and compatibility.

"Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told it would lead to this and they didn't listen," Vance said on X.

Vance expressed hope that France would be able to put an end to "this madness" before more landmarks are consumed by fire.

On Saturday, large-scale protests took place across France, driven by the rising cost of living and increasing prices. The demonstrations were marked by violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement, as well as riots, looting, and acts of vandalism. The police used tear gas, stun grenades, and water cannons against the crowds.

During the unrest, some protesters broke into the town halls of Limoges, Marseille, and Lille. In Limoges, a fire was set on the ground floor of the town hall, which subsequently spread to the roof. In Lyon, a tourist office was looted and set on fire.

In total, 550,000 people participated in the demonstrations across France, including 110,000 in Paris.
