Spain's right-wing People's Party Leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo called on Friday to send naval forces to the country's North African enclave of Ceuta and withdraw the Spanish ambassador from Morocco to hold consultations after reports emerged about Moroccan vessels entering Spanish waters.

On Monday, El Pais newspaper reported that at least one frigate and several patrol vessels of the Moroccan navy had repeatedly entered the waters of the autonomous city of Ceuta without Spain's permission during the migration crisis, although the maritime border in that area is not officially marked.

"Multiple incursions of Morocco into Spain's territorial waters is not an isolated case, but repeated aggression that requires a firm response: deploying naval forces in the area, summoning Morocco's ambassador, withdrawing our ambassador from Rabat to hold consultations," Nunez Feijoo wrote on X.

The Spanish government should demand an explanation from the Moroccan leadership and immediately inform Spain's citizens about the current developments, the politician added.

In late July, Ceuta faced a massive influx of migrants from neighboring Morocco. According to the interior ministry's estimates, some 72,000 people entered the enclave illegally from Morocco. The crisis has overwhelmed border, social, and municipal services and has been ongoing for nearly two months.
