Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has re-authorized the operation of a café that was previously found to have a rat infestation after confirming that rats are no longer present.

A video posted recently on Facebook by Ahmed Nahil showed rats running around the food storage racks at "Star Light Café." The video also showed rats scurrying across food plates within the rack.

An MFDA official told Mihaaru News that when they went to inspect the café after the video began circulating on social media last Monday, they couldn't conduct the inspection as the café was closed for thorough cleaning. However, they did prohibit the café from providing services to the public.

The official said that when they went for another inspection last Tuesday, they found that all possible entry points for rats had been sealed.

"We went for the inspection prepared that we might have to close the establishment. However, since pest control had been done and there were no signs of rat activity, we gave permission to resume services," the official said.

MFDA conducts inspections of cafés and restaurants in Male' to ensure they meet hygiene standards. Some establishments are closed when they fail to meet these standards.
