Five people were killed and more than 189 injured from a wave of political violence on Monday, between Sri Lankan government supporters and the anti-government demonstrators demanding President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation.

Five people were killed and more than 189 injured from a wave of political violence on Monday, between Sri Lankan government supporters and the anti-government demonstrators demanding President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's resignation.

The latest two deaths were in the southern town of Weeraketiya, where a ruling-party politician opened fire on anti-government protesters, killing two and wounding five, officers said.
