The ministry cited the need for additional time to verify several issues while analyzing the 20,697 applications submitted for the flats.
Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development has indefinitely postponed the publication of the list of recipients for 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' under the government's Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme.
The publication of the list, previously given multiple deadlines, was expected before the end of this week, followed by a window for submitting complaints.
However, in a press release, the ministry stated that it is investigating a complaint filed with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) alleging corruption in the permanent list of flats published last year.
Housing Advisory Committee and the Housing Consultative Committee are reviewing the list.
The ministry cited the need for additional time to verify several issues while analyzing the 20,697 applications submitted for the flats.
The ministry said that the government aims to ensuring that the flats are allocated to rightful beneficiaries.
“Despite the overdue process, the government’s objective is to ensure that the scheme does not deprive any applicant of their rights and ensure that the flats built under the scheme are allotted to the deserving beneficiaries,” the ministry said.
Details of the re-evaluation will be shared upon completion, the ministry added.
Following a two-month investigation, the ACC found that 60 percent of the 4,000 listed recipients had not met the eligibility criteria, with only 20.7 percent of the recipients devoid of any faults, while 19.7 percent had misinformation in their forms despite passing the criteria
Therefore, ACC recommended that the Housing Ministry review the list.
The flats, targeted for Male' residents and those who have lived in Male' City for at least 15 years, include 2,712 three-bedroom flats, 1,188 two-bedroom flats, and 100 flats designated for Maldives Customs employees.
