Malé Group of Hospitals has signed an agreement with Road Development Corporation (RDC) to expand the capacity of Hulhumalé Hospital's Emergency Room ER).

The agreement details that RDC is required to complete the civil work and interior finishing of the ER within 60 days to expand its capacity and broaden services offered there.

In a statement issued, Hulhumalé Hospital said that their ER and General Out Patient Department's (GOPD) patient count has exceeded 250,000. However, the hospital's ER has only seven beds, and the new project will provide 14 emergency beds with modern facilities and a resuscitation facility for critical situations.

"These figures show the huge demand for the services of Hulhumalé Hospital. This increased capacity will provide an adequate solution to this huge demand," the hospital said.

The government has also decided to build a new 15-storey building adjacent to the existing six-storey building of Hulhumalé Hospital. Work is also underway to establish an ICU and NICU in the existing six-storey building. Both these facilities will become operational within this year, the hospital said.
