State-owned Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) revealed that the company is yet to receive MVR 72 million for the collection of waste.
WAMCO stated that 70 percent of their customers are yet to make payments, including private homes, companies and government branches.
According to local media 'Mihaaru', WAMCO's Managing Director Adam Mohamed, said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Ministry of Environment owe millions to the company.
Moreover, certain academic institutions did not pay WAMCO for their services.
Adam declared that WAMCO has notified those in question, requesting to pay the due amounts.
As of August 2017, WAMCO collected 1,150 tons of waste from capital city Male.
The corporation uses three vehicles to collect garbage from Male and one in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale.
