Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has announced its search for a permanent, full-time General Secretary.

The position is currently held by Mohamed Jaushan Shareef, who has remained in the role since the tenure of former FAM President Bassam Adeel Jaleel, who now faces corruption and money laundering charges.

There has been public criticism regarding Jaushan’s continued presence in the role, given his involvement during Bassam's administration. In response, FIFA advised FAM to recruit a qualified candidate through an open selection process rather than appointing a new General Secretary internally.

Following FIFA's recommendation, the Normalization Committee has published a recruitment announcement in the Government Gazette. The General Secretary will be responsible for five main mandates: strategic implementation, administrative management, international linkages, stakeholder engagement, and human resources management.

The job requirements include an advanced degree in Business Administration, Management, Governance, Law, or a related field, as well as a minimum of five years' experience in administration or management. Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications in sports or football administration and experience working with international football bodies such as FIFA or AFC, or with national associations and clubs.

The announcement did not specify the salary for the position.

The deadline for applications is October 14 at 12:00 hrs.

It was previously expected that the normalization committee would take over the FAM and appoint a new general secretary first. However, it appeared that the committee went ahead with jaushan. Jaushan, also a Sport Lawyer, said earlier that he was remaining in the position on request from the Normalization Committee Chairman Ahmed Zuhoor and FIFA.

Some of the strongest criticism came from Ahmed Thoriq (Tom) who contested against Bassam in the most recent association elections. He alleges that Jaushan had been leading actions against regulations in the last two association elections.
