As per 'The Global Wellness Economy: Maldives' report published by the Global Wellness Institute in partnership with JOALI BEING, Maldives' wellness tourism sector is valued at USD 1 billion (MVR 15 billion). Taking into considerations spas and other wellness related services, the total value rises to USD 1.6 billion (MVR 25 billion).
In addition to wellness tourism, market size of spas reach USD 448 million (MVR 6.9 billion). Market size for personal care and beauty is at USD 135 million (MVR 2.1 billion).
Over the past five years, there has been a 52 percent increase in wellness tourism. In 2023, there was an increase of 35 percent compared to the previous year. At present, Maldives ranks 57th on the global wellness tourism sector.
The global market size in wellness economy is at USD 6.3 trillion, which is 25 percent higher than 2019.
