Maldives Immigration detained dozens of foreign nationals from a food supply hub.

In a post on X, the agency said a total of 32 individuals were taken into custody in February, following a search of the premises, acting on a tip received by Immigration Watch.

According to the agency, the report claimed to have witnessed a large amount of frozen fish, vegetables, other food products and gas cylinders being supplied to two houses in Machhangolhi, Hithilaage, which was raised up to four floors with decks.

The anonymous report further claimed that a significant amount of food parcels leave the premises around lunch time everyday, and that many delivery motorcycles come by around that time as well.

Following the tip off, Immigration officers entered the premises to conduct a search and discovered that it was being used as a mass food production space as well as an accommodation for expatriates.

Immigration said officers discovered that 32 of the 76 expatriates living there did not have valid documents. A video shared by the agency showed the living space made from wood to be cramped up.

Since the search, the 32 undocumented individuals were detained by Immigration. In recent times, the agency has deported hundreds of individuals living in the country without proper documentation.
