President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today left for New York, USA, to participate in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assemby (UNGA), where he will be delivering remarks and joining a special open debate at the UN Security Council.

While this is the first time a Maldivian leader will join a debate at the UN Security Council, this is also President Muizzu's first official trip to the UNGA after assuming office last November 17. The visit coincides with the 59th anniversary of Maldives becoming a member of the UN.

The President's Office said today that the President will deliver his speech at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.

He is set to meet with leaders from various nations during the trip and hold discussions.

During the trip, the President will also attend the Summit of the Future on the sidelines of UNGA 79 and deliver a speech to students at Princeton University.

Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim will be joining the President in the meetings. He left for New York yesterday.

The President is expected to return to the Maldives on September 29.
