Villa International High School (VIHS) students secures first-place in the Senior Division of the World Scholar's Cup.
The Global Round of the World Scholar's Cup, held in Doha, Qatar from June 22 to June 27, saw the participation of over 6,000 students from more than 30 countries. This international event brought together talented students from around the world to showcase their knowledge and skills in various academic disciplines.
The Scholar’s Cup is based on a specific theme each year, and all educational activities of this academic tournament focuses on this theme. This year’s theme was “Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence and Safety.” Debate, Quiz and Writing activities of the competition will be based on this theme.
The World Scholar's Cup follows a unique approach where each year's competition is centered around a specific theme. For the current year, the theme of the Scholar's Cup was "Sustainability, Productivity, Innovation, Collaboration, Excellence, and Safety." Participants engaged in debate, quizzes, and writing activities that revolved around this theme.
According to the Principal of VIHS, Saeed Ahmed, the Senior Division of the World Scholar's Cup aimed at student aged 14 and above saw participation from over 3600 students.
In the Global Round of the World Scholar's Cup, students from VIHS competed in teams of three. A total of four teams consisting of 12 students represented VIHS in the competition and earned 26 gold medals and 48 silver medals.
The team consisting of Aishath Raaya Nimadh, Aishath Kaya Rifaaee and Fathimath Ra’um Mukhtar achieved first place in the Senior Division with the highest team results.
Although this is the first time a Maldivian team won in the competition, some schools of Maldives participate in the World Scholar’s Cup every year.
Raaya, Ra’um and Kaya’s team achieved second place in the Quiz Round of the Bowl Challenge and 5th place in the Multiple Choice Round.
Naaif Mohamed achieved 13th place from the overall individual results. The final round of the Scholar's Cup will be held in Yale University, USA in September this year. VIHS Principal Saeed said students of VIHS will not participate in the final round despite being qualified to do so, because the timing would be very close to their final exams.
The World Scholar’s Cup has been held since 2006, and is organised by an American Company.
