As per the rainfall records in Maldives, previously, HA. Kelaa had the highest amount of rainfall within 24 hours, observed on August 12, 2024 at 231.5mm.
Statistics shared by the MET Office today show that between 8am yesterday and 8am this morning, Dhiffushi recorded 296.1mm rainfall. The second highest amount of rainfall yesterday was seen in Hulhumale' with 185.2mm. F. Nilandhoo, meanwhile, saw 178.2mm rainfall.
Continuous rain across the country saw flooding in capital Male' City and many islands across the atolls, with residences and businesses seeing varying levels of damage from the floods.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, meanwhile, has declared today a government holiday due to the difficulties in travel that citizens will be facing due to the heavy rains.
