The Criminal Court on Tuesday ordered the detention for the man arrested over accusations of stalking and harassing a female pedestrian on the streets of Male' City, until the end of his trial.
Although the incident in question occurred last Saturday, Maldives Police Service had placed the 56-year-old man under arrest on Monday.
After Saturday's victim uploaded a video on social media depicting him harassing her, other women chimed in with similar accounts, accusing him of being a serial offender.
The video shows the perpetrator on a motorcycle holding a phone, as the woman questioned him on whether he was aware of his own age.
Following the reveal of additional reports stating the individual had harassed numerous women on different occasions, police encouraged all victims to come forward with their stories.
