The Presidential Commission to Inquire into Child Rights Violations has been dissolved on Tuesday as its mandated work has been completed.
The commission was established on February 20, 2020 to protect and ensure the rights of children. However, the commission was dissolved by a decree of the President stating the work assigned to the commission has been completed and its objectives has been achieved.
One of the major objective of this commission was to assess whether the state institutions in charge of matters relating to child abuse was fulfilling their responsibilities.
They were also charged to assess and collect information on various social and economic factors such as the nature of the violence, circumstances, age, of the children that became victims of child abuse. The commission was also tasked to determine how state agencies and institutions have fulfilled their responsibilities in such cases.
The five-member committee will review cases of child abuse and submit a detailed report to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
