Malé City Council said today that they are preparing to begin the renovation work of Rasfannu beach and Sultan Park.

The announcement came after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu posted on twitter about his disappointment regarding the deteriorated state of both Rasfannu and Sultan Park. He also said he would work to revive the beauty of the two locations.

However, the city council said it had conducted a special study to assess the condition of Sultan Park, which opened in 2016, and that the had also announced for a contractor to renovate the park.

The council also highlighted that the park had not been renovated at all since it was first opened, and said none of the facilities there are usable now.

Regarding Rasfannu, the council added that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had issued the necessary environmental permits to replenish the sand of the beach. According to the council, work is set to begin next week.

Malé City Council also highlighted that although MTCC was awarded the contract to manage the beach, the contract had to be cancelled due to poor work.

The council said it would continue to renovate the beach.

President Muizzu also said in his post that the current Rasfannu and Sultan Park, which were developed during his term as mayor, were respites to the people of the heavily congested city of Malé.

However, he visited Rasfannu in the morning and followed the visit with a post about the condition there.

According to reports, the renovation there got delayed because of the disputes between the council and MTCC.

The city council said that although it was the responsibility of the city council to maintain the parks and squares the Rasfannu protect was handed over to MTCC and that the company's kiosk there was provided in exchange for maintenance.

The council also revealed that it would have to do infrastructure work on the site instead of repairs, but the city council does not have the budget to do so.

During the height of the issue, MTCC said it had applied for permission from the city council to repair the huts, barbecue area and fishing area due to the bad situation of those facilities.
