President announces land reclamation in Maaenboodhoo

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced today that in order to address the land constraints in the island of Maaenboodhoo in Dhaalu atoll, reclamation of 30 hectares of land will be initiated soon.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced today that in order to address the land constraints in the island of Maaenboodhoo in Dhaalu atoll, reclamation of 30 hectares of land will be initiated soon.

The President visited Maaenboodhoo today during his ongoing official visit to Dhaalu atoll. Speaking to residents there, he assured that land reclamation will proceed in accordance with his earlier pledge.

He said that at present, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being conducted on the project. He said that the work on the EIA will be completed in the next couple of weeks by the Construction Ministry and the Environmental Protection Agency.

He said that MTCC is ready to commence the project, asserting that work will commence soon.

The President said that in accordance with the residents' wishes, 2 hectares of the reclaimed land will be used as a separate island.

The President also said that the halted water and sewerage work on the island, as well as the construction of a multi-purpose hall will be resumed, adding that various ministries and institutions are working towards this goal.
