Laamu Maabaidhoo defeated Laamu Gan in the final to win the Raajje Super League, a women’s volleyball tournament organized by the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM).
Eight teams from two cities and six islands competed in the tournament, which was the first Super League dedicated to the women’s division.
Maabaidhoo and Gan advanced to the final after defeating Shaviyani Funadhoo and Kaafu Huraa respectively. The final was played last night at the Social Centre Indoor Hall, where Maabaidhoo secured the title in five sets.
Maabaidhoo won the opening set 25-21, before Gan levelled the match by winning the second set 25-17. Maldives national team star Fathimath Joozan Zareer played a key role for Maabaidhoo in the match.
Gan then took the lead by winning the third set 25-20, but Maabaidhoo responded strongly to win the next two sets 26-24 and 15-12, sealing the championship.
In the third-place playoff, Kaafu Huraa defeated Shaviyani Funadhoo 3-2 in another closely contested match.
Huraa won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23, before Funadhoo fought back to take the next two sets 25-16 and 25-22. However, Huraa held their nerve to win the deciding fifth set 15-13 and secure third place.
