Ministry of Islamic Affairs has today signed agreements to construct mosques and branches of the Centre for Quran in 11 islands.

In a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre today, an agreement was signed to construct 14 facilities for religious purposes. This includes 11 mosques, two branches of Centre for Quran and an Islamic Centre.

Under the agreements, mosques with a capacity of accommodating 500 persons will be built in HA. Baarah, HDh Nellaidhoo, Sh. Noomaraa, N. Henbadhoo, R. Inguraidhoo, B. Maalhos, B. Kudarikilu, AA. Feridhoo, Th. Veymandoo, Th. Hirilandhoo and S. Feydhoo.

Islamic Ministry said that these mosques, built on government expense, will include space to conduct Quran classes. The mosques will come equipped with solar panels and air conditioning, with vinyl flooring.

Branches of the Centre for Quran will be built in L. Maabaidhoo and Lh. Olhuvelifushi. The Islamic Centre is to be built in Sh. Foakaidhoo.

The branches of the Centre for Quran will have three classrooms, a library and a hall, the ministry said.

Of these, 11 projects have been handed over to Fenaka Corporation, with the company's Managing Director Ahmed Saeed signing the agreements.

After the signing of the agreements, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that some of the ongoing projects are currently halted, but the aim is to esume this at the earliest and complete them alongside the new projects.

Shaheem said that a further agreement on a project in HA. Utheemu was also due to be signed today. However, this has been postponed as some administrative changes need to be brought, he said.
