Coastal protection of Hoarafushi Airport has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Wednesday.
The project amounting to 90.5 million Rufiyaa was handed MTCC to be completed within a year.
Under this project, a 2,861 meter sea wall will be built on both sides of the runway. This will also include ensuring the water in between the causeway will have an ongoing current.
This project was signed on by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim while Director General Fathimath Shaanaa signed on behalf of the Planning Ministry.
Hoarafushi Airport was initially developed by MTCC as well. However strong monsoon weather in May damaged the airport runway and terminal building as well, which lead to the airport operations to be halted for a month. Operations resumed on June 15.
