Talons Basketball Club's suspension has been shortened, allowing them to compete in this year's basketball season.
Talons, who won the National Basketball League 2023 second division, were promoted to the first division but did not compete last season for various reasons. The team had been suspended for two years starting January 17 last year.
The club requested a lighter suspension, but Maldives Basketball Association (MBA) initially upheld the suspension. However, Talons later appealed to the Appeals Committee and won, granting them the opportunity to compete in the 29th MBA Championship, which began on Tuesday.
Twelve teams are competing in the MBA Championship, which started on Tuesday evening at Social Centre's indoor court. In the men's division, Talons lost their opening match 172-47 to Kings BC. Raptors defeated Royals 89-64 in the first game of the tournament that evening.
Stingers beat the TRex 172-47, while Red Wings defeated Spartans 95-31 last evening.
The last MBA Championship, held in 2022, saw Kings win the men's division and Queens win the women's division. Talons won the newly introduced MBA Championship Shield that year.
