A warehouse on Majeedhee Magu in capital Male' City has burned down in a fire incident last night.
The warehouse, located near Villa Mart, belongs to 'Fruit Tree Apple', sellers of a wide variety of chocolates, nuts, cosmetics and other products.
The warehouse was housed in a two storey structure built with steel and corrugated tin sheets.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that the fire broke out around 04:20 am and was brought under control by 5:27am early this morning.
They said that it took until 6am to entirely put the fire out, by which point the warehouse had been damaged beyond use.
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that five residences near the area of the fire had been damaged, and the residents are now being provided assistance.
The authority said that 33 persons from 10 houses were in need of temporary shelter. This includes 14 Maldivians and 19 foreigners.
Of these, 22 people have been provided temporary shelter as of now.
No persons were injured in the incident.
