The donation includes a forklift, a crane, and an excavator.
Alifu Alifu Atoll Thoddoo Council has donated four vehicles to Thoddoo Local Authority Company (TLAC) to support its operations.
The company's Managing Director, Abdulla Nihad, told Mihaaru News that the donation includes a forklift, a crane, and an excavator. He noted that the council has tasked TLAC with waste collection and disposal, as well as the maintenance of the island’s two tourist beaches.
While tourism is thriving in Thoddoo, Nihad highlighted challenges in the construction sector, particularly the difficulty in delivering materials due to the condition of the island’s harbor.
“There is no way to get construction materials at an affordable price. Our company is facilitating that as well,” he said.
Nihad said that TLAC allows customers to make payments at their office, after which materials are delivered directly to the site.
The company also plans to lease out the donated vehicles. Nihad emphasized the importance of maintaining the harbor area, where most commercial equipment is located.
Under the Decentralization Act, councils have been able to register with the Ministry of Economic Development since 2022 to provide commercial services. The first company to be registered under this provision was also from Thoddoo.
