President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today dismissed Ibrahim Faisal from the post of Minister of Tourism.
The Tourism Ministry will now be temporarily overseen by Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed, the President's Office website states.
Reasons behind the decision have not been revealed as of yet.
Faisal holds a First Degree in Business Management, with his thesis focusing on tourism.
Although Faisal's appointment met with public criticism at first, it was during his time as Minister that the Maldives marked 2 million tourist arrivals for the first time.
Although there were initially allegations of nepotism around the appointment as Faisal is the son of Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, he dismissed these as baseless, stating the President had appointed him due to confidence in his abilities and competence.
