Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) and the Parliament Secretariat are collaborating to launch a higher education program designed for members of Parliament.
An agreement was signed between the Parliament Secretariat and IUM yesterday to offer an advanced certificate course in Sharia and Law for MPs.
Eight members of Parliament are set to participate in this one-year course.
A meeting was held yesterday with the MPs involved in the course and senior Parliament officials, alongside IUM representatives.
Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla said the goal of making the 20th Parliament a body of highly educated and capable members. He expressed a desire for the Parliament to serve the people with educational excellence.
Speaker Abdul Raheem thanked President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for prioritizing this initiative for Parliament members.
The Parliament Secretariat also said that it is working with IUM to introduce a first degree program in law.
